Hi fellow Stokesley Deanery members, some information and a couple of things you (or other members of your church) might want to take action on if you’re thinking of coming on the Pilgrim Walk on August 8th at 9.30 am from St. Oswalds, Newton-under-Roseberry to St. Cuthbert’s, Kildale.
Food: Kildale Pilgrim Place Cafe would appreciate us ordering before the day and would like our choices by July 31st. If you check the attachment please email your choice to Chris Stinson cmstinson3@yahoo.co.uk If you don’t want to preorder then you may have a more limited choice. Please bring liquid and snacks with you for the journey.
Transport: There is very limited parking (5 cars) at St Oswald’s plus the Pay Parking in the usual carparks. If you can share lifts or get someone to drop you off that would be a good idea. Equally if you can organise your own return transport please do. There is a train from Kildale to Ayton at 12.55. There will be lifts available – if you need one again please let Chris know.
The Walk: We’re aiming to start from St Oswald’s at 9:30, but you may want to join the walkers at Roseberry car park as we walk up Roseberry Lane to the wood. As the party will walk along the edge of Newton Woods you might want to join the group at the bottom of Thief Lane which is just above the gate into the woods at the Great Ayton end. From there we travel up through the woods and down to Aireyholme Farm ( about45 minutes) and onto Dykes Lane Cross Roads ( about an hour). Those wanting to can join the walkers here. We then walk along the footpaths along the perimeter of Easby Moor below Captain Cook’s monument. There is a section walking through exposed tree roots so you could use walking pole(s) if you have any. Finally the only other item you will require is a hat to keep off flies as we walk through the bracken section. We aim to arrive at Kildale church by 12 noon. I’ve attached a link to the route.
Pilgrims: we are Pilgrims journeying from one Pilgrim place to another and will share the occasional prayer & psalm along the way. If you have a prayer, poem or verse from the Bible that you think would be appropriate please email me by August 2.
Remember – you can join us at Kildale even if you don’t walk!
